 Embroidery on Knits: Wild Flowers

with Dario Tubiana

Wild Flowers, the embroidery project designed for this workshop, is inspired by the floral motifs of Impressionist painting, an artistic current of the second half of the nineteenth century that loved to usage of bright shades, depending on of the emotion that they wanted to express.

Wild Flowers uses many embroidery stitches that can be used on wool and you will be able to use to enrich your favorite knitting projects.

In class, we will study all the stitches the fun way: we will immediately start embroidering together. We will review chain stitch and back stitch (and their variants), stem stitch, slit stitch, French knot, open buttonhole stitch, steam stitch, woven wheel stitch, bullion stitch and herringbone stitch, and more!

Also, you will learn how to create a beautiful 3D flower that will add a special touch to any project.

“Did You Know Vincent Van Gogh was a Yarnie?”

with Loret Karman

Tonight, we'll learn how to make the quintessential  Dutch baby pancake, the perfect treat to munch on while learning about color.

After he died, Van Gogh's family found a box of yarn that contained 16 skeins of yarn, all wound up in a specific way. Apparently he used these skeins to predict the outcome of color combinations in his work.

In 2012, Loret worked with the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam on a reconstruction of this special box. It contains many secret ways of studying color that will benefit knitters.

Sure, choosing colors for a project can always be a bit scary.  This class will help make it faster, easier, and more predictable using the tools Vincent used.

In this 2-hour hands-on class you will get the story behind the master's mysterious box of yarns and practice different color combinations.
