KNITTING UNDER THE SEA December 5-7, 2025

Get ready to dive deep into the ocean without getting wet! This virtual weekend of “Knitting Under the Sea” will be a fun-filled voyage where you’ll master mermaid-worthy stitches, craft a tiny crab, learn about kelp forests from an emerging expert, and prepare blackened fish tacos. Whether we're casting a net or knitting up waves, you’ll come out feeling totally reel-axed  (sorry <grin>) and ready to swim in a sea of creative vibes. So, grab your favorite yarn, put on your imaginary scuba gear or sea monster hat, and let’s make this special weekend a tidal wave of knitting fun!

Join us December 5-7, 2025, for a knitting weekend of learning, laughter, and surprises with my warm and welcoming community.  I've invited my favorite creative geniuses to show us their masterful interpretations of  deep sea stitching.

Note: All sessions will be recorded and participants will have access to them for 2 weeks after the event.

At this time, we cannot ship goody boxes outside of the US.

MEDUSA SHAWL with Julie Dubreux @JulieKnitsInParis

The Medusa Shawl is the perfect project to dive into the magic world of brioche!

This shawl was inspired by the art of French graphic designer Monsieur Papier. Its crescent shape has the smooth curves of an umbrella-like creature, and the two-colour brioche motif echoes Monsieur Papier’s ballet of swimming jellyfish. It is worked from the top down and has delicate two-colour i-cord edges.

Julie will cast on with you and guide through all the techniques featured in this project.

No need to hold your breath, the first few stitches will turn you into a knitting mermaid!

Saturday, December 6 12:00 Noon-2:00 PM Eastern

LOBSTAH MITTENS with Romi Hill

Do you love how toasty mittens are, but want some extra mobility? Make yourself a pair of lobster mittens! They're versatile and fun, and perfect for your next trip to the ocean floor.

In this class, we'll be starting out with a provisional cast-on with waste yarn to create a tubular cast-on edge, and then get into ways to make the ribbing on your cuff look even and straight. And then on to the best part of the mitten, what Romi likes to call the claw!

We'll have a shell of a time.

Saturday, December 6 3:00-4:00 PM Eastern

UNRAVELING THE KELP FOREST with Vivian Sieu of California State University, Fullerton

Dive into the intertwined connections between kelp, sea stars, and urchins, and see how the disappearance of sea stars unraveled the fabric of this underwater ecosystem.

Saturday, December 6 5:00-6:00 PM Eastern

GO FISH DUPLICATE STITCH PARTY

with Holli Yeoh

Grab your tapestry needle and let’s make a splash! We’ll use duplicate stitch to give new life to old favourites—think cheeky fish and undersea friends that can hide a mystery stain or refresh a tired classic with a touch of whimsy. Perfect for handknit or store-bought sweaters alike.

Leave your scuba gear at home, just bring a sense of fun and a sweater ready for a glow-up!

Saturday, December 6 7:00-9:00 PM Eastern

CURRENTS AND COLOR

with Keith Leonard @yarnsnobyarns

Dive beneath the waves and discover the magic of color! In this class, we’ll explore the beautiful movement that happens when assigned pooling meets short rows. Using specially-dyed artisanal yarn, you’ll create a cowl that looks like tiny fish swimming and captures the shimmer and flow of life under the sea.

Kits: $ 32 for close-fitting cowl; $64 for infinity cowl in your choice of colorways.  Kits must be ordered by November 8 for delivery prior to the event.

SHIPWRECK SHAWL

with Safiyyah Talley

Imagine that you are shipwrecked on a deserted island with just knitting notions and a nearly completed hand-knit shawl.  But alas, you find that during the shipwreck, a few of your stitches dropped all the way to the very end! Ack!

The Shipwreck Shawl begins as a triangular shawl that’s knit on the bias from one triangle tip to the other. Then, right before the bind-off, we unravel three stitches down to the very end of the shawl.  Next, we’ll use a crochet hook to pick up these stitches as one simple braid (no crochet experience needed!). Lastly, we will also unravel the first few stitches in our row to create a no-fuss, yet luxurious fringe.

By the time you are rescued, you will not only have a generously sized chic shawl, but also some fun new knitting techniques to explore!

In this session, we will start by knitting a mini version of the Shipwreck Shawl, allowing us to practice the crochet braid and fringe techniques.  Then, we will cast on our Shipwreck Shawl together!

Optional Kits: $68 in your choice of colors. Kits must be ordered by November 8 for delivery prior to the event.

(MER)MADE IN FRANCE

with Franklin Habit

Let's take a playful virtual dive into the making of a charming knitted mermaid costume for one of Franklin’s dolls. He’ll talk through his design process, share funny mishaps, and get into the "knitty-gritty" of the construction of this mes-mer-mazing masterpiece.

Perfect for anyone who loves fiber arts and a fin-tastic story!

MAKE A SWISH: THE FISHNET SHAWL with Xandy Peters

 Ready to fish for complements?

This net-astic shawl (or scarf) features a hexagonal mesh pattern that’s straight out of a fishing net!

Dive into Xandy’s amazing lattice stitch technique, which magically turns a series of i-cords into a stunning, airy fabric.

Sunday, December 7 5:00 Noon-7:00 PM Eastern

GARY THE CRAB AMIGURUMI

with Anna Hrachovec

Get ready to pinch and stitch your way into fun with our itty-bitty crab knitting adventure! In just two breezy hours, we’ll dive into the adorable world of tiny crabs, covering everything from elf-sized circular knitting basics to creating cute little claws with I-cords (it’s easier than you think!). You’ll learn how to start with just a handful of stitches and pick up and knit like a pro.

Your first wee crab will be so quick and cute, you’ll be itching to make a whole crabby crew!
