Design Your Own Crescent Shawl

A crescent shaped shawl is the perfect canvas to get your imagination and creativity going. The way these shawls are constructed is easier than most people think, and you can achieve really amazing, finished objects. In this class we’ll see in depth what different basic constructions you can use, and talk about yarn behavior, including lace patterns, using short rows, handling different colors, and blocking.
At the end of this class, we’ll discuss briefly how to write instructions for all these steps and turn them into a great shawl pattern!

Making the Most of Short Rows

Short rows are a fun and simple technique for shaping your knitting that allows you to knit a gentle curve or slope by adding extra length of fabric to parts of your knitting. Short rows can be used for almost any shaping: the shoulders of sweaters, the heels of socks, custom-fitting the bust area, or perhaps ad a gentle curve to the bottom of a sweater.
In this workshop we take a look how to use short rows in more untraditional places too; to shape a shawl, add a wedge, or even instead of intarsia!

This class will be a hands-on session where you will learn practical tips, tricks, and hacks that will help you solve the pesky issues many knitters encounter while knitting. Such as how to make your K2TOG and SSK stitches mirror each other for beautiful lace, make your ribbing and cables look more even, bind off evenly without worrying about tension, jogless and beautiful stripes in ribbing, and so much more!
Mystery Date Hat
